Since the beginning of 2023, Living Planet Morocco has been working with the Agence National des Eaux et Forêts to develop a wildlife monitoring system in the Atlas Cedar Biosphere Reserve (ACBR). The NGO takes charge of 7 eco-guards from the local population to regularly collect data on the presence of wild and reintroduced species.

In September 2023, a capacity-building workshop for ACBR ecoguards was organised by Living Planet Morocco in partnership with Ifrane National Park, Haut Atlas Oriental National Park, Khenifra National Park and Toubkal National Park. The event provided an opportunity to train 15 Reserve eco-guards in the use of a wildlife monitoring application.

Every day, RBCA ecoguards criss-cross the cedar ecosystems, geolocating sightings of various species of mammals, birds and reptiles. A map of the sightings is generated monthly to serve as a decision-making tool for improving the conservation of species and their habitats.
